The healthcare sector is responsible for 7% of the total Dutch greenhouse gas emissions. The causes are complex and diverse, while the initiatives to reduce those emissions are often local and not always cohesive. Medical Delta is committed to making healthcare more sustainable through interdisciplinary research and innovation, and sharing knowledge about sustainability in healthcare.
One of the initiatives to accelerate innovation and research towards greener healthcare is the Interdisciplinary Thesis Lab 'Sustainable Hospitals', which Medical Delta has set up in collaboration with the LDE Centre for Sustainability. Master's students from diverse disciplines and different academic institutions dedicate their master's thesis to research on actual sustainability issues of hospitals and the industry.
